At
the heart of the Poitevin marshes, Beneath the walls
of the great Abbey of Maillezais, the Abbey Boating
Center is your gateway to a journey of discovery along
and by-waters through "la Venise Verte" (Green
Venice).
On
leaving the Grand Port, after running alongside the
abbey ruins, so rich in the magic of this place, you
will penetrate deep into marshlands accessible only
by boat. In the shadow of the pollarded ashes and poplars,
you may enjoy the coolness of this green and watery
place.

By
boat, accompanied by your guide, you will discover the history
of this extroardinary natural environment, its flora and fauna
and its traditions.
In the course of your journey, your boatman will guide you across
the last fishery of the Maillezais marshes.

Go
as you please, in family or with friends, by boat or canoe.
You will be supplied with a marked map with which to follow the
sign-posted circuit : 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours or by the day.
Discover the marshland with its well-maintained picnic areas at
your own pace.

Le
Grand Port.
The
Abbey Boating Centre is situated on the Grand Port an entirely
pedestrianized space right next to the Abbey entrance and at the
foot of its watchtower.
In
the shade of weeping willows, make the most of this enchanting place
where other services are also at your disposal, like the bar 'l'Echaugette",
the restaurant "la Grange aux Roseaux" and the gift
shop "la Cabane aux souvenirs".
