CHATEAU
DE TERRE-NEUVE |
 |

The château of Terre-Neuve is perfectly situated in the beautiful
town of Fontenay le Comte. Where you can discover the interesting
and historical heritage of the Vendee. All our visits are guided in
French and English and there is ample car parking facilities to welcome
our visitors.
The chateau was built in 1580 for Nicolas RAPIN , great provost
of the constabulary of France and companion in arms of HENRY THE
4th. In this jewel of the French Renaissance he welcomed illustrious
people, such as The Duke of SULLY and Agrippa d'Aubigné.
During the 19th century, the chateau belonged to the famous etcher
The Marquis Octave of ROCHEBRUNE who produced 492 etchings at Terre
Neuve and was therefore considered by some people as the "PIRANESI''
of his time ".

of Rochebrune, our visitors can admire paintings , furniture and
items of clothing dating from the 17th and 18th century. Also on
show are diverse collections including a collection of mortars.
