BED AND BREAKFAST AT L'ANTÉZIÈrE



Situated in the heart of the high Vendeen Bocage, in the countryside, with quiet and pleasant surroundings.

Our home is situated in REAUMUR where the inventor of (among other things) the thermometer René Antoine FERCHAULT lived.
You'll be able to discover all his history and inventions at the Manoir des Sciences in Réaumur. This manor has been completely restaured and open to the public in May 2002. After your visitwhy not discover the XII - XV century church and chapel where every year in september there is a pilgrimage. There are many bridle paths in our commune.

Further north you'll be able to discover LE PUY DU FOU (28 km), further east the beaches of "Côte de Lumière", and south "Le MARAIS POITEVIN" with outing on boats and dicovery of the abbaye of Nieul sur l'Autize and Maillezais

Ne a la Rochelle en 1683, Rene Antoine Ferchault, Seigneur de Reaumur, figure parmi l'un des plus grands savants du XVIIIe siecle. En effet, apres avoir etudie le droit a Poitiers and a Bourges, il s'installe a Paris en 1703 où il se consacre aux sciences. Admis a l'Academie Royale des Sciences a l'âge de 25 ans, il multiplie par la suite les decouvertes dans de nombreux domaines : mathematiques, physique, biologie, sciences naturelles...
Meme s'il est surtout connu du grand public par le thermometre qui porte son nom, il est aussi considere comme le fondateur legitime de la siderurgie scientifique grâce a ses recherches sur les alliages ferreux and son article paru en 1722 "l'art de convertir le fer forge en acier".
Veritable "touche a tout" (etude entre autres sur les insectes, la digestion, la technique du verre, pionnier de la genetique...), ce savant a l'esprit encyclopedique s'eteint en 1757 a St Julien du Terroux en Mayenne.
