In the south of the Vendee in rolling wooded hills, is a farm "la Berthomerie".
Looking at a map, find the town of La Châtaigneraie; to the east is the village of Mouilleron-en-Pareds. La Berthomerie is to the northeast. Two famous Frenchmen lived nearby - Georges Clemenceau and Jean De Lattre De Tassigny. You can find out about them, and also visit a superb viewpoint at La Colline des Moulins, (The hill of the windmills) and see the beautiful rolling hills.

At the bottom of La Colline des Moulins, Suzanne and Marcel, owners of La Berthomerie a working farm, are ready to welcome you.

Two separate guest builings on the farm have three stars on the Gite de France official rating system.

They are very modern, clean, and well equiped. There are four bedrooms each with private bathroom comprising shower, washbasin and WC.

- 1 room with two single beds, which connects to one of the other double berooms to suit the needs of a family.
(If necessary this room can be separated with two locked doors)

The living room, and one of the double bedrooms are in the second builing. The living room has an area where Suzanne serves you a breakfast including homemade jams and local brioche bread.

In the living room, a well-equipped kitchenette is available for your own meals if you wish.

Outside the first building is a private guest space with terrace, lawn and children's swing. About two hundred yards aways is a pond where you can fish.

For walkers there is a path across the hills to the magnificient viewpoint - the hill of the windmills. This path leads on to a network of footpaths of more than 26 miles in length.

La Berthomerie is 870 yards from the center of the village of Mouilleron-en-Pareds. Starting from the center of the village, in the direction of La Châtaigneraie, look on your right for signs to la Berthomerie. Make the indicated left turn and continue a short distance to the farm. It is easy to find and there is plenty of parking.

It is 15 minutes from the forest of Mervent, which has many activities including boating, walking, and amusement park. It is 30 minutes from Puy du Fou, a highly recommended Vendeen theme park and the famous Marais poitevin or Green Venice. The beach and Futuroscope, an interesting cinema theme park, are both about one hour away.

48 Euros for 2 people, per day including breakfast
